the dailies this week come from my first week as not-an-art-teacher. for two weeks at school i have been transformed into a history/social studies teacher for "facing history and ourselves" a immersive seminar for eighth graders about all the terrible atrocities man has committed against man throughout time. CHEERY, RIGHT? but i don't mind it as much as i might have imagined, and i have a great group of students, so that's a real plus.

just a couple weeks ago i finished my most recent spread in the nomadic playlist, inspired by "towers" from bon iver's self-titled album with which i am gently obsessed. and here i am like a good little blogger, posting it now instead of, well, never.

we're trying to pick up the pace on this project to be faster than a really slow snail, so hopefully there'll be more frequent nomadic playlist posts in the future! one cool thing is that the sketchbook has truly been a nomad, traveling to several destinations on the east and west coasts! that is neat.

so, i know you've all probably been grumbling to yourself, "GIVE ME THE DAILIES I WANT THE DAILIES" but unfortunately, i don't have them for you yet. they are stuck in the blue pencil stage right now because, for the end of the pre-college program i decided to take my gentle obsession with making/writing love notes (which littered our office by the end of the program, doodled on post-its, scrap paper, and even a toilet paper roll fashioned into a tiny owl speaking words of love & adoration) and make hand-lettered thank yous for my incredible staff members (slash friends).

below is a sampling of some of them which i present as a peace offering and also proof that i am in fact not a big fat slacker. i hope they liked getting them as much as i liked making them.

the dailies will be coming, i promise. i am hoping to sneak this week's in before i head to the beach for some legit vacation-time like a real-live grown-up (without internet or a scanner).

nomadic playlist: the new pornographers' sweet talk, sweet talk

okay, so i can explain.

i finally received the nomadic playlist after a very long hiatus sometime last fall, and it sort of sat on my desk, taunting me as i wrote lesson plans day in and day out all year, until finally, spring break and the imminent threat of holding onto it for almost as long as my partner in crime had held it previously guilted me into completing this spread and sending it back on it's merry way.

it's to accompany the song "sweet talk, sweet talk" from the new pornographers' most recent album together which is awesome and who i was able to see perform live shortly before making said spread (a possible source of inspiration, who's to say).

it's been a busy week! i am hard at work on many simultaneous projects, and believe it or not, i take off for the fair city of seattle in less than two weeks! how this snuck up on me, i do not know, but i'll be headed to the national art education association conference and i am super-jazzed! not only do i get a mini-vacation in the longest (read: no long weekends, no breaks, no nothing) month of the school year, but i also get to nerd out over art ed theory/research/practice for 4 days AND visit with one of my best buddies AND catch up with old friends! can you say win-win-win-win-WIN? all right, all right to the dailies, already:

oh hey sunday, how's it going? so nice to see you again. i have been a super-slacker this week, basking in my unbelievably flexible (albeit brief) schedule between the end of precollege and the start of summer camp at the walters (aka tomorrow). how do i define said basking? uh, 3 seasons of 30 rock in 4 days mmmmm. every once in a while i really love turning off my brain.

sorry for the delay! when i said "precollege is done hip hip hooray!" i meant the actual students-moving-out part. i forgot about the wrapping-up-everything-ever part. today was the cerebral wrap-up, tomorrow is the physical wrap-up, and then (FINGERS CROSSED) i am free to move on to one more week of summer camp at the walters art museum and then onto MY REAL JOB! whoa. i have a mailbox and everything. it's serious.
